I knew I wanted to teach and decided to study with Access to Music in London. I was presented with the ‘Music Educator National Award’ after completing their Music Educator Programme and was subsequently employed as a Course Leader. I continued my studies to gain Qualified Teaching Status and was asked to manage the design and delivery of a tutor training programme (Every Child A Musician) for musicians in the London Borough of Newham. This project included working with the education team and section leaders from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
I have also worked as a Creative Practitioner in schools helping to design and deliver collaborative projects. This included music and literacy sessions with pupils at Ringwood Primary to create and record a school song to celebrate their Centenary. At St Francis School in Fareham, I worked with a range of pupils using short musical phrases and rhythms for ‘jamming’. I got the opportunity to work with the superb UK Saxophonist, Soweto Kinch.
